5 Wrestling Goodbyes that were too much

Dean Ambrose just said his goodbye. And sucks. But nevertheless, it got me thinking. Despite what many may say about wrestling being..."fake"...The tears that one could shed is that equivalent to a dog running away, dropping a freshly opened popsicle, and stepping on a LEGO all in the same day. It's a brutal, painful image I know. And I do apologize. But with that said, today we are looking at 5 Wrestling Goodbyes that were just...Yeah.

5. Mark Henry...Kind of.
Come on, admit it. You nearly lost in when Mark Henry came out on an episode of RAW in 2011 to announce his retirement. He would talk about his highlights, including Sexual Chocolate, and Mae Young giving birth to a...Hand. Oh wrestling. Anyway, it all ended when he proclaimed to his wife and kids that "Daddy is coming home," all the while John Cena was still in the ring. However, it was one of the best swerves the company ever pulled off, with Henry delivering a Worlds Strongest Slam on Mr. Thuggy McBuggy himself. Damn you Mark for making feel feels. Damn You. Just...Damn You.

4. Edge
To me, Edge will always be one of the more polarizing figures in wrestling. He's someone who had a scandalous rendezvous with Lita and Matt Hardy. He did a "Live Sex Celebration" with the former, and gave RAW high ratings. On the flip side, he was always so damn talented in everything he did. His Tag run with Christian is always a stand out, not to mention feuding with the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton and The Undertaker. But when he had to announce his untimely retirement in 2011, we all nearly cried with him. It was saying goodbye to a career filled with neck injuries and unfortunately caught up to him. We miss you Edge. We miss you.

3. HBK (Loses His Smile)
I always felt that the timing was off when HBK announced his "retirement" from wrestling in 1997. He was in the midst of a feud with Bret Hart, when suddenly HB-Shizzle McGrizzle announced that he had nagging injuries, toppled with him famously saying he had "lost his smile." Shawn, nearly in tears said that he had to vacate the title in order to find himself. While at the time it seemed genuine, years later we find out that HBK simply didn't want to lose the title to Bret Hart. While it is undoubtedly a pure dick move, one has to wonder just how bad it actually did impact the WWE at the time. Hart was already WCW-bound,  and while their match in Montreal always had fire, did HBK need to vacate it anyway?

2. Paige
This one hurt quite a bit. Seeing as how I was there for this, maybe that's why. But it's tough when you sustain an injury like Paige did at a house show against Sasha Banks. After not appearing in any matches for quite a bit of time after, Paige would go on to manage Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville (Her Absolution buddies) for a while. Then, RAW after Mania '18, she declared her retirement from the wrestling business. It was a moment that had the place chanting "This is Your House," and "You Deserve It," All while she placed her shirt in the middle of the ring, and high fived the fans.

1. Roman Reigns
Love him or hate him, Roman Reigns is without a doubt one of the hardest working members of the entire WWE roster. He has the look, the ability, and while his mic skills are so-so, his intensity makes up for it. Arguably todays most polarizing figure, fans were stunned in 2018 when Roman had announced that he had leukemia as a kid, and that it came back. What makes this even more sad was not only the fact that he was the WWE Universal Champion, but afterwards when his Shield Brothers would embrace him in a hug. Seth would show tears of sorrow for one of his best friends wrestling. Thankfully, Roman Reigns has beaten leukemia once again, and the Big Dog now roams free in the yard.

That's our list! What are some of your goodbyes that made you run out and get a box of tissues? Let us know below, or on Twitter!
