5 Bad KOTR Winners

You know, these King of the Ring matches are amazing. They're a spotfest that the fans simply can't get enough of. And there's nothing wrong with that. The King of the Ring tournament has launched the careers of Stone Cold, Brock Lesnar and others. But what about the other side? What about the winners that you don't really hear about? Well today we are going to look at 5 bad KOTR Winners.

5. Mabel

I enjoyed Viscera for the most part. A big man that could hang with just about anyone. As scary as what his stature was, however did he really need to win the King of the Ring tournament? I mean come on, he's a big man. Why is he not doing big man things? Look at present day Braun Strowman or Hell even Kane for that matter. They were believable big men. But King Mabel? King Mabel? Come on WWE you can do better. And it's not like much came of that. Davey Boy Smith got inserted into his spot, and he was out the door soon after.

4. Sheamus

I'll be honest, I debated about putting Sheamus on this list for obvious reasons. I just want to say that Sheamus is without a doubt one of my favorite competitors from the 2010's, and it's easy to see why. That said his King of the Ring run was forgettable at best. Aside from winning it, he never seemed to fully get over at that time. He had a run against Daniel Bryan that year, and then was chosen in the Supplemental Draft the following year. Atleast push the guy that you're giving the crown to, not squander him.

3. Owen Hart

I loved the moniker "The King of Harts". It fit Owen in such a way that only he could carry it. It wasn't Bret, it wasn't Stu. It wasn't anyone from the Hart family tree. It was the "Black Sheep" of the family. And while his run was decent after, he lost steam shortly after that. He feuded with Bret right after his KOTR win, but then put on some forgettable matches. I hate using that word, especially with someone like Owen. But let's face it at the end of the day, if you're not in a monster push after winning the King of the Ring, it didn't mean much to begin with.

2. Ken Shamrock

I got to be honest, I had totally forgotten about Shamrock winning the KOTR in 1998. But he did, and it's yet another case of winning it, only to get slightly squandered. After KOTR, he feuded had a couple of brief feuds that didn't really amount to much. The only real good thing was his spot at that years Wrestlemania, and maybe joining the Corporation. It's hard to tell with someone like Ken because WWE always seemed like they never really had a ton of plans for him at that time, even though they made him out to be such a big deal.

1. Bad News Barrett

Did Wade Barrett really needed to win the King of the Ring? I mean seriously, why did WWE never take him seriously as a competitor? Sure, you get a fancy cape but that's about it. And Wade tried his absolute best to get it over, however it just never came about. Truthfully, the fans could really care less that he won it, and it's a damn shame because of how talented he really was. There was nothing organic about it, and frankly killed almost all of his momentum at that time. If he didn't deliver "Bad News" I'd be afraid to see what WWE would've thought of next.
